As part of Junior year at Brighton High School, every Junior is required to prepare a research paper on a controversial topic of their choosing. For my project, I decided to tackle the enormous task of arguing that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act is flawed. It was a difficult journey-- spending hours digging through swaths of legal jargon to backup my claim that the system we have in place in the United States to protect our creative works doesn't always work the way we want it to. It was no walk in the park, as one might imagine, but by the end of all of my research, I had come out knowing more about copyright law in the United States than I thought I ever would.
As a result of all of my research, my English teacher, Mrs. Shomper, awarded me the "Most Thorough Research" award to signify my struggles but ultimate success on my paper. Only a handful of awards were given out. It is a great honor to have been recognized for my efforts. On May 24th, I was awarded the RIT Innovation & Creativity Award for my, "..accomplishments as a student, your [sic] involvement as a member of BHS and community and your [sic] creative and innovative talents" See the presentation of my award by Mr. Mitchell (an Assistant Principal at BHS) on The BHS Morning Show below: (Starts at 26m54s) In the summer of 2015, my mom and I went to one of our local libraries to do a StoryCorps interview about her immigration to the United States. For about 45 minutes, she and I went through her entire journey of immigrating to the United States, from the expectations she had of this new country beforehand, the moment of arrival at the airport by her then-husband, and of course the experience once she arrived in the United States. It was a lot of fun and I hope to someday be able to do something similar again. The StoryCorps Project was sponsored by the StoryCorps @ Your Library Project. Our full interview is preserved in the Library of Congress. Here is the link to a portion of the 45 minute-long interview: democratandchronicle.com
Some of my photos that I shot for the Friends of the Arts in Brighton showcasing art in the Brighton area were published both on the school district website, link here, and in the local paper for each of the three parts. Here's the link to the Dance Day article. The Art days showcased music, dance, and visual art. Check out my other posts for more photos from each of the three events. Some of the photos featured in the dance day article were taken by Athan Marzen. The document featured below is from Brighton Connections, which featured my work.
