This year, my family and I went to visit our extended family and just relax before the start of senior year. Over the course of that time, I was able to take quite a few photos to illustrate my experience. Here is a small selection.

Now that the end of my Junior year has passed, I decided to make some more bookmarks for myself, but also as gifts too! I hope you enjoy. :) This last piece can't really be described as a bookmark, simply due to the fact that it is about 6x9", not my usually-sized bookmark. But regardless, I still think it is pretty cool! Here are a few pictures of the progression of what I think is probably my best piece so far.
On Sunday, June 19th, Friends of the Arts in Brighton (FAB) hosted their second annual Arts Day at the Market in coordination with the Brighton Farmers Market. Along with wonderfully warm weather, market-goers enjoyed student instrumental and vocal performances, Mr. Baldwin's TCMS Jazz Band, student dance routines, and much more! Visitors of all ages made drawings and colored with chalk. Near the end of the event, Dr. Michael Liener, Dr. Kevin McGowan, and Mr. Baldwin cut a cake to celebrate the eighth consecutive year that Brighton CSD has been chosen as a Best Community for Music Education. In all, this community celebration of Brighton Arts was a resounding success! Click the button below to see more pictures that both I and my friend Athan Marzen took.
NOTE: All of the photos shown below were taken by me. As part of Junior year at Brighton High School, every Junior is required to prepare a research paper on a controversial topic of their choosing. For my project, I decided to tackle the enormous task of arguing that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act is flawed. It was a difficult journey-- spending hours digging through swaths of legal jargon to backup my claim that the system we have in place in the United States to protect our creative works doesn't always work the way we want it to. It was no walk in the park, as one might imagine, but by the end of all of my research, I had come out knowing more about copyright law in the United States than I thought I ever would.
As a result of all of my research, my English teacher, Mrs. Shomper, awarded me the "Most Thorough Research" award to signify my struggles but ultimate success on my paper. Only a handful of awards were given out. It is a great honor to have been recognized for my efforts. On May 24th, I was awarded the RIT Innovation & Creativity Award for my, "..accomplishments as a student, your [sic] involvement as a member of BHS and community and your [sic] creative and innovative talents" See the presentation of my award by Mr. Mitchell (an Assistant Principal at BHS) on The BHS Morning Show below: (Starts at 26m54s) I had the honor of taking some portraits and group shots for two fantastic a Capella groups at my high school: Macapella and Baronettes. We went to the Highland Diner on South Clinton Ave in Rochester, NY. They were going for a Grease-themed look this year, and boy, did they deliver! Come see them in concert, June 10th, 2016 at Brighton High School. If you would like to download the photos, click the button below to get HD copies. Enjoy the photos! --Ian S. Below are some group photos from both singing groups combined. I played around with some filters and things just to spice them up a bit. Over Spring Break, my friend Athan and I decided to go on a bike ride along the Erie Canal. Along the way, I took some video to make a short opening video for The BHS Morning Show. I also tried my hand at making animated titles for the video in After Effects by hand. (It was no small feat- That took 3 hours by itself to create) As you have probably guessed, I am very new to After Effects, but I do hope the end product is enjoyed as much by you as it was by me. :)
I learned the liquid masking from this Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Nd4PoEjBC_Q My hobby has been growing it seems. This time though, I decided to make a time-lapse of my creating a bookmark to create a new opening video for my school's Morning Show. In the process, I ended up making two separate videos (one longer and one shorter) to fit the time limits on the Morning Show. But I also wanted to have a cool video that goes through the entire process. There are some slight differences between the two videos, but both have the entire time-lapse. Enjoy! Final product in all of its glory:
Ah, another break a few more bookmarks to make!
This time I tried experimenting with more stained glass patterns. I also tried to control my use of warm vs. cool colors and using bigger shapes with more intricate connections between the shapes. It worked better for some than for others, but they all turned out great in their own way. I had to do a little bit of photoshopping to make the colors stand out the way they do in real life, since my scanner was picking up some of the colors incorrectly; especially the highlighter yellow. I don't know how many I will make over the course of this break, but here's what I have so far! Enjoy! :) |
